Two Foreign Affairs Magazine articles will be included in today's discussion. The first is Resistance is Futile: The War on Terror Supercharged State Power, an 8-page article by Thomas Hegghammer. Hegghammer is a Senior Research Fellow at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI).

The second article up for discussion is Winning Ugly: What the War on Terror Cost America, an 8-page article by Elliot Ackerman. Ackerman is a former U.S. marine and intelligence officer and a co-author, with James Stavridis, of 2034: A Novel of the Next World War.

We will also cover a short Wall Street Journal article titled What Might Have Been at Tora Bora by Peggy Noonan.

Articles are chosen to provide significant background about a current international relations issue affecting American foreign policy. John Beghtol, former history teacher-of-the-year and member of the Academy of Political Science, serves as moderator. To ensure that everyone has time to contribute to the discussion, group size is limited to 10 people. Register for this free session by calling the front desk, and you will receive a free copy of the article.

The library can accommodate in-person attendance for up to 6 people in the Meeting Room, AND will also host this event via Zoom for those who prefer to attend remotely. Please note that the Meeting Room has its own separate air handler, and we have installed an Austin Air purifier in the room.

If you choose to attend via Zoom, their technicians recommend downloading the latest version of their (FREE) app prior to login to get the best audio and video experience. Please login to your free Zoom account and click JOIN A MEETING in the upper right corner of your screen.
