Summer Reading Program 2021

The 2021 Summer Reading Program is June 5th though July 31st. The theme this summer is “Reading Colors Your World” and emphasizes the connection between literature and multiculturalism, the arts, and appreciation for nature. Funding for the program was made in large part by generous donations from Iowa State Bank, Walmart, and Alliant Energy.

In the reading program, participants challenge themselves to read at least 10 hours this summer and develop greater reading fluency, empathy and critical thinking. Join us this year for Story Time events outdoors and online three times a week, to-go art project craft bags, special events and performances all summer long, and a Teen Book Club in July. The Summer Reading Program is open to youth of all ages, from infants through high school seniors. Readers who complete a 10-hour reading log receive a goodie bag, a free book, and can put their name in for raffle prize drawings on the last Fridays of June and July. Each consecutive log submitted increases your chance of winning one of the big prizes. Time in which children are read to counts toward the 10-hour goal. Families can sign up for the Summer Reading program any time before the program concludes on July 31. Visit the library to receive an activities calendar and learn more!
